She also plans on presenting it in a
showcase program coming up in New
York City.
Palter, who recently won the Detroit
Music Award for Outstanding Jazz
Vocalist, will be appearing at Jazzfest
with pianist John Nam, bassist Dave
Rosin and drummer Nate Winn.
"I like jazz because it allows per-
formers to reinvent themselves each
time they go on stage': Palter says.
"Jazz is the most challenging musical
style because it is constantly evolving. I
can explore many possibilities?'

Jewish spouse, he currently worships
at a Unitarian church.
"The band will be at Jazzfest with
music spanning its 25-year career, but
we will focus on our new CD-bonus
DVD package, Twenty-Five," says
Mintzer, who spends half his time as
an instrumentalist and half his time as
a composer and arranger.
The releases include 31/2 hours of
interviews, archival footage, a live
video performance from Italy and an
audio recording from a live show in
Paris done in October 2005. Our music
expresses honesty, kindness to others
and a search beyond the obvious.
Mintzer also has a new recording,
Old School-New Lessons, with the
Bob Mintzer Big Band and includes
the Yellowjackets on two songs. He
developed his musical instincts as a
student at Interlochen, which he con-
siders a turning point in his life, and
looks forward to a particularly exciting
engagement taking him to Thailand in
December, when he plays during the
king's birthday party at the Bangkok
palace.
"After attending Interlochen, I was
pretty sure that I wanted to do music
as a full-time career',' says Mintzer,
whose son is a clarinetist and 1 lth-
grader at Interlochen Arts Academy.
"I followed the usual path — playing
in bands, working on music and doing
some studying and teaching?'
Among the people planning Jazzfest-
are Style, the magazine editor Carla
Schwartz, Dana Loewenstein and
Michael Serling.
"Jazzfest 2006 continues its tradition
of presenting three days of world-class
music:' Zonjic says. "It's all done in an
