Jesse Palter Suzanne Chessler Special to the Jewish News finger-songwriter Jesse Palter has a strong reason to celebrate S as she performs at this year's Jazzfest in Birmingham. She will be previewing her first CD, Beginning to See the Light, which officially gets introduced later this month. Jazzfest, in its 14th year of bringing free jazz entertainment to the area, will be held Thursday-Saturday, July 20-22, at Shain Park. It is hosted by the Community House and has attracted some 25,000 people to Birmingham for the annual event. Palter, who entertained at the July 19 fundraising preview party benefiting Community House outreach programs at the home of Jazzfest chair Jack Krasula, appears 6:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, when the program also features the all-female group Straight Ahead and the internationally known musicians of Yellowjackets. Thursday's show, 7:30-9:30 p.m., features Jazzfest artistic director and flutist Alexander Zonjic appearing with guitarist Wayne Gerard, keyboardist Chris Codis, bassist Mike Harrington and drummer Kenny Brooks.
