Agency Elects President

Its where memories are made,

Michael Banks, first vice president of
Comerica Bank, was elected president
of Hebrew Free Loan Association, the
local Jewish communal agency that
provides short-term, interest-free loans
to Jews in need. Banks, of Farmington
Hills, also is a member of the board of
Jewish Home and Aging Services.
Richard Broder, president of the
Bloomfield Hills-based HFLA for the
past two years, will remain on the
executive committee.
Also elected to the execu-
tive committee are Peggy
Daitch, Stan Bershad and
Rob Schwartz, vice presi-
dents; Jay Must, treasurer,
and Stuart Sherman,
secretary. Neal Zalenko,
Michael Banks
Stuart Borman, Beth
Contorer, Rose Handleman and Julie
Yaker were elected to three-year terms
on the board of directors.
The Friends of Hebrew Free Loan
has dedicated a Charter Members' Wall
of Honor. The wall carries the names
of more than 500 donors.
The Friends' annual membership
drive and a loan capital campaign were
initiated to assist with operating needs
and the number of loan requests in a
difficult local economy. Sam Bernstein
chairs the Friends' effort, and David
Kirsch heads the loan capital cam-
paign, which has raised $1.5 million.
At the HFLA annual meeting,
three loan recipients whose lives have
been touched by Hebrew Free Loan
Association related how they met per-
sonal challenges with the help of the
Jewish Federation agency.
