"But the kids really bonded incredibly
with the Israeli teenagers they've met.
Ariella was very upset to be leaving and
said she felt like she was abandoning her
new friends. But we promised her she'll
be going back. She told us if the proposed
national rally for Israel in Washington
takes place, she would give up everything
— even a session at camp — to make sure
she could be there to support Israel."
And rallying together is important.
"Funds are important, too," said Rabbi
Elliot Pachter of Congregation B'nai Moshe.
"So is contacting our president. If the U.S.
were to get involved passionately, it could
only help:'
On Shabbat, Rabbi Pachter also shared a
simple way to show solidarity with Israel.
"I told the congregation that when they
are able to get on the computer or on the
phone that they need to get a hold of rela-
tives and friends in Israel," he said. "We
can't forget that they really need our sup-
port.

Israel Emergency
Fund Established

How You Can
Support Israel

The Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, along
with the Jewish Community Council, is mounting emer-
gency initiatives to help in Israel and also to inform the
community around developments in Israel, specifically
Detroit's Partnership 2000 region in the Central Galilee,
which has been under attack.
"Israel's physical and spiritual survival is at a critical
juncture," said Peter Alter, Federation president. "We
are organized and mobilized to employ a comprehensive
emergency relief effort at this time, just as we've always
done and always will do in times of crisis to help our
brothers and sisters in Israel."
The Federation is part of an emergency effort to trans-
fer children from the northern areas of Israel to safety in
overnight camps in the middle of the country.
Almost $100,000 has been raised to keep children out
of harm's way. One hundred percent of all contributions to
this fund will be sent immediately to Israel.
The Federation has opened an online mailbox to accept
donations for an Israel Emergency Fund. Go to www.thisis-
federation.org , or call 248-205-2550.
