When selecting an orthodontist, good sources to ask are
your child's friends, schoolmates, other parents, your family
dentist and even teachers.

Find out if other kids in braces or appliances enjoy their
experience. Are the kids treated with respect, and are their Nelson Hersh DDS, MS
Licensed Specialist .
personal needs addressed? Do they look forward to going
to the orthodontist? Kids are very perceptive and can tell
when someone truly cares about them, and this is very important.

Ask the parents if they are happy with the orthodontist they selected. How are
emergencies handled? Is there an emergency phone number or pager where someone
may be reached if needed? Additionally, it is a benefit if the orthodontist has only one
office, so there is more accessibility at a dependable location. The office should also be
conveniently located as appointments are usually every 5 weeks or so.

Once the orthodontist is selected, call the office, and ask if they have an informational
folder about the office, philosophy and information about the doctor. Find out if there
is a fee for an initial consultation. After this, go to the appointment, see the office (is
it clean, patient friendly and utilizes modern technology?), and see if the orthodontist
truly cares about your child, and if he listens. Are you and your child comfortable with
the environment there? Does the orthodontist put you at ease? This is the beginning
of a relationship that should be a rewarding and positive experience.

Please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Hersh at the newest state-of-the-art orthodontic
facility in West Bloomfield/Commerce Township at 2300 Haggerty Road, Suite 1160,
(248) 926-4100.
