eing beautiful, inside
and out, was the focus
of "A Night at Todd's
Room" in Birmingham. More
than 50 young women enjoyed
a private evening of pampering,
hors d'oeuvres and dessert at
the posh makeup salon on June
22. They also heard from several
leaders of the Young Women's
Campaign, an outgrowth of the
Women's Department of the
Jewish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit, about the power and -
beauty of giving.
"So many women give as part
of a family gift',' said event chair
Amy Schlussel of Huntington
Woods. "We really want to show
women the importance of making
their own gift. It's empowering
having your own voice and per-
forming a mitzvah."
During the event, partygoers were
treated to one-on-one makeup
consultations with the Todd's
Room staff. They got tips on
makeup application, color selection
and the latest beauty trends. Of the
women who attended, nearly 70
percent made an individual gift to
Federation's 2006 campaign. More
than a dozen women made new
contributions that night.
"I hope everyone has a broader
understanding of the incredible
support Federation provides for
our community," said Andrea
Beavers of Farmington Hills, one,
of the event co-chairs.
"I spoke about one of the first
things I learned in a Torah study
class I'm taking with my husband.

God created the Garden of Eden
for Adam and Eve. He tells them
to take from the garden every-
thing they desire. But, he also
commands them to respect what
they have been so fortunate to
receive and give back to the earth
what they take. After reading that
passage, I felt guilty because I had
been taking but giving back very
little. So, I decided I was going to
make a change."
Additional co-chairs for
the event included: Sharon
Eisenshtadt of Bloomfield Hills;
Laura Gorosh, Stephanie
Jacobson, Mario Scott, Lisa
Menuch and Beth Stollman,
all of Birmingham; Debbie
Karr of West Bloomfield, Nancy
Kleinfeldt of Huntington Woods;
Jennifer Silverman of Franklin;
and Barbara Giles of Novi.
Also spotted in the Todd's
Room crowd were: Ilyse Aaron,
Stacey Goldstone, Victoria
Roth, Amy Shefinan and
Kimberly Broner, all of West
Bloomfield; Susan Augusts
Kari Coburn, Lisa Korotkin,
Anessa Kramer, Lea Narens,
Stacey Wittenberg and Julie
Zalla, all of Bloomfield Hills;
Elizabeth Joelson, Bonnie
Coleman, Lisa Feldberg,
Roslyn Jacobson and Suzanne
Leibovitz, all of Birmingham;
Andrea Belen of Berkley;

Southfield; and Amy Berlin,

Zimmerman, all of Huntington
Woods. 7,
