JN: How does your book differ from
your other travel communications?
EK: It's more comprehensive and
detailed. It covers all types of budgets
and all types of trips. The information
was all inside my head after the past
eight years of what I've been doing.
It's something I compiled from expe-
rience, from actually visiting all the
places mentioned. .

JN: What have been your best and
worst travel experiences?
EK: Hawaii was very special, and
Disney cruises have been among the
best vacations. Years ago, before I start-
ed seriously doing work as the Travel
Mom, we went on a cruise with our
extended family to celebrate my dad's
60th birthday, and it was the wrong
type of cruise for a multigenerational
vacation. I think with more research
and planning instead of just looking
at a price point, we would have made a
much better choice.

more that I've experienced and seen. I
just was in Traverse City last month, and
I wish I would have known more about
that area because I didn't get to include
as much as I would have liked to.

JN: What have you learned about
Jewish concerns when traveling?
EK: I have lived in a very Orthodox
neighborhood and found out that RV
(recreational vehicles) vacations are
really popular for observant families.
Families can have their own food and
not be reliant on anyone else's. There
are jokes about Jews and camping, but
RV camping is a wonderful option for
observant Jews.

JN: What do you think family travel
has done for your family that could
not be done in any other way?
EK: I think my children have learned
that the world is only a plane ride away.
I've also had an impact on other family
members and friends. My 92-year-old
grandmother is not afraid to just get on
a plane and go.

JN: What project is next?
EK: I'm working on a book on educa-
tional vacations — whether learning
something new or doing something that
the travelers have never done before.
There are so many different ways for
families to learn on vacations.

produced two children, Tori and

But here's a bit about the man,
from other sources including his
autobiography, A Prime Time Life.
While he lived in a Dynasty-type
mansion, Spelling lived a quiet
social life by most standards. He
married three times.
There was a very
short marriage when
he was very young.
In 1953, he married
actress Carolyn
Aaron
Jones (Morticia on
Spelling
The Addams Family),
who converted to
Judaism. The couple broke up in
1964, but remained friends.
In 1965, he met and married an
18-year-old Jewish college student
and beauty named Carole Marer.
Spelling wrote that she came from
"a good Beverly Hills family" and
was known since childhood as
"Candy."
Candy's family was leery of
Spelling but relented, and the
marriage was a happy one that

Randy.

In a 2002 profile of Tori, The
Jewish Journal of Greater Los
Angeles said about the Spelling
family: "On Passover, her mother
Candy hosted a seder, led by
Aaron Spelling, who translated
the Hebrew from the Haggadah.
On the High Holy Days, the family
attended Sinai temple."
Aaron and Candy obviously took
their marriage vows seriously and
were reportedly very upset when
their daughter, Tori, left her hus-
band.of 15 months and began an
affair, last year, with already-mar-
ried actor Dean McDermott.
They refused to attend her May
wedding to McDermott, and Tori
told the press her parents were
not speaking to her. However, when
Aaron suffered a stroke on June 11,
Tori and her husband flew to Los
Angeles and visited Aaron in the
hospital. Tori said they reconciled
and told each other how much
they loved each other.
