With the preliminary release of the Jewish population study,

education of young people emerges as a major concern.

Type Of School Attended

school year is expected to be
close to 200 students.
Rabbi Lee Buckman, JAMD
head of school, cautioned that
JAMD is not immune from the
enrollment challenges facing
other day and supplementary
schools.
"We are still in a growth
mode," Rabbi Buckman said.
Fund-raising at JAMD is
always a priority, with the cost of
tuition about $4,000 per student
more than the school charges.

. . . we must real-
ize if we want our
children to live
Jewish lives as
adults, we must
invest heavily as
parents and as a
community, in
their intensive
education .. .

"I think the demographic
study points out that, with an
aging community, it's going to
be harder to recruit for Jewish
day schools," he said. "The data
presents a huge challenge to edu-
cators. Unless we come up with
creative solutions, we will all
either experience slower growth
or a decline in enrollment." 7
