others to Israel on our summer mis-
sion, and to continue soliciting in our
community; we have lots of needs:'

"My first and foremost charitable
work is to Federation. They offer a
unique system, an umbrella system,
where we take care of all parts of our
community."
For two years, he has attended
Partners in Torah, a study program at
Yeshiva Beth Yehudah in Southfield.
His charitable fund-raising ideas
aren't confined just to the Jewish corn-
munity. "I'm always exploring oppor-
tunities and working with people to
promote jobs
here in metro
Detroit, and
I'm working
with people
to start some
sort of fund to
actually make
that a reality,
to bring people
to Detroit from
different parts of the country with
good-paying salaries and low-cost
living:' he said. "I'm working on that
right now with some business and
rabbinical leaders."
Urdan will be YAD president-elect
for one year then president for two.
"Then I'll start over again with the
big boys:' he said. "There's been talk
about agency presidencies, but we'll
see what happens." E
with his brother, Paul, 40, who now
lives in Chicago.
"My grandparents had been vaca-
tioning there their whole lives, and it
was just a natural place for us to go:'
said Bubba, who has two other broth-
ers, Doug, 39, of Charlevoix, and Matt,
41, of Columbus. His father, Baker,
lives in Southfield, and his mother,
Judy, lives in Farmington Hills.
In 1992, after expanding to a
Chicago store on North Pier, he real
ized the retail world wasn't for him.
"I'm not the type of guy to sit and
wait for people to come visit me:' he
said. "I had to go out and hustle on
the streets to make a living?'
He started an ad specialty business

"[The mission to Israel] became a
real awakening forme. The weird
thing was, it felt like I was home."

About a year ago he merged his
business with The Print House, a
printing company, and he has an
office in Southfield, but he's always on
the road.
