Where's Harrison?
I read the Cover Story "Cap & Gown"
(May 25, page 36) with much enthu-
siasm. I swelled with pride at your
annual tribute to the Michigan Jewish
community's brightest high school
seniors. I expected many graduates
from the schools the Jewish News listed.
I spotted the proud, lone, Jewish
graduate from Southfield-Lathrup
immediately and understood why —
Jewish families with children in public
school are leaving Southfield. However,
it disturbed me to see no representa-
tion from Harrison High School with
its sizeable Jewish population.
The Jewish community in
Farmington Hills has a perception
that Harrison High School is the
bad school and North Farmington is
the good school; therefore, you have
Jewish flight to the North Farmington
High School district from other areas
of Farmington Hills. That Harrison
had no representation in the article
has helped perpetuate that perception.
Olde Franklin Towne is a perfect
example. Many Jewish families live
in this subdivision and send their
children to Hillel Day School in
Farmington Hills. After the eighth
grade, because of this academic per-
ception, these families make a lateral
move to another area in Farmington
Hills to reside in the North
Farmington High School district.
I believe that there are many gradu-
ating Jewish seniors at Harrison High
School who likely meet the Jewish
News criteria. I am encouraging next
year's Harrison seniors, their parents,
and school administrators and/or
counselors to become proactive and
readily participate in the "Cap &
Gown" survey. Harrison desperately
needs some academic bravado!

Would I be better off buying a
Ford Fusion (assembled in Mexico)
or a Toyota built in the U.S.? Or per-
haps I can buy a Chrysler (owned by
Germans), assembled in Canada with
a Japanese engine?
I'm typing this on my Apple
Computer (made in Singapore) while
wearing my Levi jeans (made in
Guatamala). I've just finished eat-
ing a salad made of lettuce picked in
Florida by Mexican migrants.
Last night, I watched TV (made in
Korea), which played a Hollywood movie
on my DVD player (made in Japan).
Earlier in the day, I had to call a Help
Center (press 1 for English) and was
assisted by a man named Bob in India.
I went through my home, checking
clothes, electrical equipment, appli-
ances, etc. I couldn't find one single
item made in America. \'\There do I
look to find these "domestic" products?

Correction
In the letter "Scare Tactics" (June 1,
page 6), a IN editing error cited the
incorrect letter that Danial Dubin was
disagreeing with. In supporting the
Michigan Civil Rights Initiative, Dubin
was responding to an anti-Initiative
letter that ran on May 4, "Facts On
Gender Politics" (page 6). Dubin agrees
with the letter the JN cited: "Proposal
Makes Sense" (May 18, page 6).
