Rosen, Bradley Finkel and Matthew Weisberg, all of West Bloomfield, hike in
the Golan Heights.

uted to food banks all over Israel.
I enjoyed experiencing Israel with
all my classmates, being able to speak
Hebrew to many Israelis, and partici-
pating in mitzvah projects all over this
beautiful country.

Last Monday, my school and I came
back from Israel: During this trip, we
met many people, saw many historical
and biblical places, and had all our
studies come to life.
Coming from a very spiritual family,
one of the most moving places I vis-
ited was the Wailing Wall (the Western
Wall). Just standing right next to the
wall, with a huge stone right in front
of me, placed there by my brothers
almost 2,000 years ago, just brought
me to tears.

Our recent trip to Israel was filled with
many special memories. However, I
thought the most memorable was the
hike up the Eilat Mountain.
Throughout the hike we saw green
plants,.flowers, and even a single goat.
This reminded me of the goat God
sent Abraham when he was to sacri-

fice Issac.
Even if this hike took a very long
time I felt wonderful and exhilarated
once I teached the top. The moun-
taintop overlooked Eilat and the Red
Sea. It was breathtaking. There was a
special stillness in the air.
I felt like our ancestors, who trav-
eled through the desert for 40 years.
They felt exhausted, but amazed by
their beautiful promised land. In life,
there are many obstacles and chal-
lenges that you are faced with but if
you put your mind to it you could
accomplish anything.

After nine years of studying about
Israel, to go and experience it first-
hand brought all of my education to
life. We were able to climb Masada,
swim in the Dead Sea and help feed
those who live under the poverty line.
For me, this trip provided closure to
our years at Hillel; one final memory
we will share together forever.
The one thing I will never forget
was seeing the Western Wall for the
first time. I put my notes in the wall,
said a special prayer, and at that
moment I felt proud to be a Jew.
