Seniors in Oak
Park dance the
night away.
S
enior citizens living
at the Pfentis and
Teitel apartments on
the A. Alfred Taubman Jewish
Community Campus in Oak Park
had their own prom last week,
courtesy of .the college students
at local campuses served by
Hillel of Metropolitan Detroit
(HMD).
A few high school students
also got into the act at the Jewish
Apartments & Services' first
"senior prole While many resi-
dents on the Eugene and Marcia
Applebaum Campus in West
Bloomfield have joined in tlw
festivities for area elderly spon-
sored for many years by West
Bloomfield High School, this was
the first similar event hosted by
JA&S.
Karen Adelman of HMD said
the idea grew out of summer
programming. A prom for college
students who didn't attend their .
own became a prom for seniors,
sponsored by HMD's new Tzedek
Committee:
A grant helped to defray the
cost of the disc jockey, who
was also subsidized by Cloud 9
Special Events. Lesley Zwick of
Chocolate Impressions also low-
ered her price so that the seniors
could take home a photograph
of themselves carved into choco-
late. ❑
