Metro E ach Memorial Day weekend for nearly 50 years, members of the Jewish War Veterans in Michigan have been honoring the lives and contributions of those who served their country through military service. Gravesites of veterans at Jewish cem- eteries are adorned with American flags and two services are held at local ceme- teries, one at Machpaleh in Ferndale and the other at Hebrew Memorial in Clinton Township. About 75 people attended the May 28 services, which included a presentation of a memorial wreath by JWV Auxiliary President Myra Gross of West Bloomfield and flag presentations by representa- tives of the JWV, Canadian Legion and Russian World War II veterans. "We are Americans; we are all veterans of a war or war era," said Dr. Marvin Delidow of Oak Park, senior vice com- mander of JWV-Michigan."We feel we have to celebrate their lives and their contributions to our nation and to us:' - Ken Guten Cohen, story development editor Clockwise from top: Frank Blase of Southfield stands proudly with the flags.
