Although the piece was performed
in Cincinnati on May 24 and in Great
Barrington, Mass., on May 27, all first
performances by sponsoring organizations
are considered premieres. And, according
to the composer, the trio is "still hot off
the press."

Schoenfield's \vork includes Klezrner
Rondos for flute, tenor and orchestra;
Cafe Music for violin, cello and piano;
and The Merchant and the Pauper, an
opera in two acts adapted from an 1809
story by Rabbi Nahman of Bratzlay.
"This new piece is not specifically jazz
or Jewish:' said Schoenfield, "but it has my
stamp on it."
Astute listeners can trace the music's
harmonic progressions from 1920s blues,
he said. And, if you really pay attention,
you'll hear some Mozart in the mix.
