While there are numerous attractions, festivals and
activities in the Metropolitan Detroit area, summer
usually makes the natives around here pine for "Up
North." So our inaugural edition of Summer Fun is
devoted to summer getaways — quick trips away from
home to enjoy the warmest time of the year.
While we might be hard pressed to define Grand Rapids as part of
Up North, we certainly have to include it in any discussion of west-
ern Michigan and the Lake Michigan shoreline that so many of us
equate with summer fun.
And for those of us who have seen it all, we've added some quick
getaways just outside Michigan that include new twists for such
tried-and-true favorites like Chicago and Toronto, and a beautiful
area in southern Ohio that just might deserve your attention.
