In 1966, nine families who shared a vision gathered for dinner and Temple Kol Ami was born. Forty years later, TKA is going strong and growing more than ever. DIGEST Political SYNergy, Democratic Lt. Gov. John D. Cherry and Republican gubernatorial candidate Dick DeVos will headline Adat Shalom Synagogue's SYNergy Shabbat, May 12-13. At 8 p.m. Friday, Cherry will speak on "The State of Michigan: Its Present & Future." At 12:30 p.m. Saturday, DeVos will discuss the role he hopes to play in Michigan's future. Scott Carter, director of conservation and welfare for the Detroit Zoological Institute, will talk at 10:30 a.m. Saturday on "Restoring the Roar: The New Era of the Detroit Zoo." The Shabbat Shaboom service at 5:30 p.m. Friday Cherry is designed for pre- school through first- graders and their, families. A casual Shabbat buffet will follow. Children's programming from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. will include a presentation by Science Alive. The 6 p.m. Friday Shabbat Rocks service will pair Carlebach melodies with sounds of guitar, percussion and other instru- ments. It will be fol- lowed by a 7:15 p.m. Shabbat buffet.
