WHAT BOOK, CD, MOVIE OR OTHER MEDIA
WOULD YOU LIKE TO SHARE WITH OTHERS ?
I always like to pass along copies of the
Bosco's compilation CDs, The Bosco Prime
Cuts Vol. 1 and 2. They present our creation
of Detroit lounge music and are a concrete
example of how Detroit needs to rebuild by
forwarding its own style and creativity rather
than merely copying what others have already
done. I'm also a big fan of The Weatherman,
with Nicolas Cage. While I'm generally not a
fan of his, this dark comedy is a perfect example
of a solid, well-written film that got lost in the
shuffle.

Along with his brother Jeremy, attorney
Dan Haberman opted out of the family fabric
usiness to create the Bosco in Ferndale as
an "urban playground" — more a sophis-
ticated spot to sip a cocktail to the classi
soul of the Chi-Lites or Baby Blak's hip-hop
than a traditional bar or dance club. "I was.
told a real lounge would never work in Metro
Detroit," says the 32-year-old Haberman,
who lives in Royal Oak. But this summer, that
: lounge will celebrate its fifth successful year
in business. We asked Haberman our version,
of the Four Questions.

IF YOU COULD HAVE BRUNCH WITH ONE
BIBLICAL OR HISTORICAL JEWISH
FIGURE, WHO WOULD IT BE?
I'd like to sit down with a current political
Jewish figure, Sen. Joe Lieberman [D-Conn.],
to ask him what happened to his spine and
sense of history. Maybe we could also invite a
biblical Jew, Jesus, to see how he feels about
what is being done in his name by the Bush
administration — putting the wants of the
wealthiest before the needs of the helpless.
Finally, I'd put a historical Jew and former

Who's thinking what

and why?

Tiger at the table, Hank Greenberg. I'd ask him
to do a couple of laps around the room to prove
that old-time baseball players don't really move
as if in stop-motion animation.

3

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE JEWISH FOOD?
I've never been a big fan of Jewish food.
From gefilte fish to kugel, I generally
find it extremely bland. I can, however, tear up
some corned beef and pastrami. My favorite
Jewish dish is salami and eggs. I used to get
it at Max Silk's Left Field Deli on Michigan
Avenue by the old Tiger Stadium. While the
deli and Max are both gone, anyone who ever
had a meal there will never forget either.

4

WHAT WOULD PEOPLE BE SURPRISED
TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?
That I averaged 30 points per game play-
ing professional basketball in France and was
named league rookie of the year before heading
to D.C. for law school. Oh, but I joke. Some
might be surprised to know that I had a brief
turn as a television writer during law school
and would, at some point, like to devote more
attention to writing novels and the occasional
editorial column.
