ost of us won't turn down an offered peek into someone else's home.
Whether we're looking for decorating ideas for our own homes or
enjoy a juicy taste of the story a person's fiunishings, collections and
arrangements tell about the inhabitant, we've all got a bit of the voyeur in us.
Which is why the Temple Israel House Tour has been so immensely successful
— more than 600 visitors flocked to the one-day event last year. This year, the 13th
annual tour will showcase six homes in the Metro Detroit area — not necessarily
belonging to members of the West Bloomfield temple.
"Basically, we want homes that will be interesting to our patrons and so are cho-
sen according to decor, architecture, art, collections or history," explains Beverley
Wolgin, who co-chairs the event with Janie Roth. "A home is usually rec-
ommended to the committee by someone who has seen it and thought it
would be a good addition to our tour."
Among the six chosen this year are two that have opened their doors
for a special Platinum preview. One, an 1,800-square-foot custom mod-
ern ranch condo in Bloomfield Hills, was renovated and decorated by
designer Richard Ross, owner of Ferndale's Richard Ross Design as well
as R2 Home, the designer's boutique of home furnishings. The other is
a 3,900-square-foot circa-1939 colonial house, also in Bloomfield Hills,
decorated by designer Joseph Keenan of Joseph Keenan 8c., Associates in
Birmingham. P1
