Captivating Kitchens

National Council of Jewish Women,
Greater Detroit Section, will hold
Captivating Kitchens, a two-day fund-
raising event for Meals on Wheels
and other local community service
projects.
The "Delightful Diversions" patron
event will be the first course, begin-
ning at 7 p.m. Monday, May 15,
Specialties Showroom, an upscale
kitchen appliance display center at
2800 11 Mile Road in Berkley. Enjoy
wine and food from local chefs and
caterers, including Paul Kohn (Quality
Kosher Catering), Julie Herman
(Annabel's & Company), Charles
Keeps (Savoir Fare Catering), Florine
Halperin (Amaryllis), Dorothy Barak
(Specialities Showroom), Leslie
Robinson (Edible Arrangements)
and the Food Network's Michelle
Bommarito. A silent.auction will be
held as well.
Kitchen tours, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Tuesday, May 16, will be the second
course. Participants will view a vari-
ety of innovative kitchens in private
homes, each showcasing the work of
an outstanding local kitchen designer,
including A.K. Services, De Giulio
Kitchen and Bath, Designs Unlimited,
Kitchens by Richards, La Belle
Provence, Millennium, Perspectives
and Atwood: Fine Architectural
Cabinetry.
Patron event tickets are $125 per
person and include a tour ticket. Tour
only tickets are $35 each.
Sponsors include the Seligman
Family Foundation, Homedics, The
Kroger Company, Schostak Brothers
and Company Inc. and Specialties
Showroom, as well as many silent auc-
tion donors.
The event is chaired by Nancy
Josephson, Abbey Brasch Nathan and
Shayna Silverman. The patron event
is chaired by Jain Lauter and Sharon
Lipton. Vice president of the event is
Irma Glaser.

Senior Adults Honored

Jewish Apartments & Services (JAS)
has named the 2006 Eight Over
Eighty/Tikkun Olam Award Honorees.
They are Bill Berman of Franklin,
Sarah Deitch of West Bloomfield,
Selma Goode of Detroit, Dr. Henry
Krystal of Bloomfield Hills, Ed Meer
of Bloomfield Hills, Dr. Abe Nemeth
of Southfield, Jenny Solomon of

Southfield and Elizabeth Elkin Weiss
of West Bloomfield.
Eight Over Eighty is a yearly event
held by JAS to honor eight individu-
als, all over age 80, for their lifetime
achievements in the community.and
dedication to the Jewish value of tik-
kun olam repairing the world.
The event raises money for the
approximately 300 JAS residents
with incomes below the federal
poverty level. The 2006 event will
be held on Sunday, May 21, at the
Jewish Community Center in West
Bloomfield.
Brunch will be 11 a.m.-noon.
Tickets are $65 and the induction
ceremony immediately follows. There
is no charge for the ceremony, though
donations will be accepted.

Fashionable Benefit

Oakland County judges, attorneys and
elected officials will be featured in a
fashion show 6 p.m. Thursday, May
18, to benefit the Janice Morganroth
Advocates for Children Program of the
Child Abuse and Neglect Council of
Oakland County.
Fashion Justice will be held at the
Community House, 380 S. Bates,
Birmingham.
The Janice Morganroth Advocates
for Children Program serves children
rho have been removed from their
homes due to abuse or neglect. It
trains and supports volunteer advo-
cates.
Honorary event chairs are Oakland
County Circuit Judges Wendy Potts
and James M. Alexander. Event
chairs are Julie Nelson-Klein of
West Bloomfield and Diana Dietle of
Milford.
Fashion Justice will include strolling
appetizers, a pasta bar, cherries jubilee
and a cash bar. Music will be provided
by the Bare Assets Jazz Group.

The Michigan Jewish War Veterans
and Ladies Auxiliary will hold their
fund-raising sale of poppies in May.
Money raised will. service Michigan
VA medical centers and help descen-
dants of veterans with college scholar-
ships.
