feces of ceiling dangled at
the end of electrical cords
hanging over the carnage
below — lifeless bodies, pools of ,
blood, the injured shouting for help.
The young Palestinian who blew
up himself Monday at Mayor's .Falafel,
near Tel Aviv's old Central Bus Station,
killed nine civilians and injured more
than 40 when he detonated his metal-
and nail-packed bomb.
It was the second time the restau-
rant has been hit in four months,
and both times Islamic Jihad claimed
responsibility. This time, the Fatah
movement's Al-Aksa Brigades also
claimed responsibility and Hamas
leaders in the Palestinian Authority
said the bombing was an appropriate
response to Israeli "aggression!'
Palestinian President Mahmoud
Abbas condemned the attrack.
Israeli Member of Knesset Ahmed
Tibi on Tuesday asked Interim Prime
Minister Ehud Olmert to change his
decision to revoke the Israeli residency
status of Hamas leaders living in east
Jerusalem. "Residency or citizenship
can't be revoked on the basis of belief
or political affiliation:' Tibi said.
But MK Aryeh Eldad called the
government decision an insufficient
step in the war on terror. The decision,
taken earlier Tuesday at an emergency
cabinet meeting, came in response
to Monday's suicide bombing. Senior
Hamas members such as PA Minister
Mahmoud Abu-Tir would be affected
by Israel's decision.
In order to retain their Israeli resi-
dency and identification cards, llamas

members will need to announce to
Israel's interior minister that they have
resigned from the PA parliament and
the llamas movement.
A written summary of Tuesday's
meeting stated that Israel held the
PA government responsible for the
terror attack, especially taking into
account comments by llamas officials
who called the bombing a "legitimate
action!'
"Any member of a government
involved in terrorism should not be
granted any immunity in the form of •
his Israeli residency identification:'
declared Olmert.
"The Palestinian government is
responsible for this act of terror. Its
members will not be given freedom
of movement and shall be regarded as
operatives of a terrorist organization,"
added the interim prime minister.
But Olmert decided against a
military proposal to declare the
Palestinian Authority an enemy state,
a de-facto green light for an armed
Israeli offensive. Political sources said
Olmert, who is trying to build a coali-
tion government, held off on serious
retaliation for fear of undermining
U.S.-led efforts to isolate the llamas
government.
Early Tuesday, IDF troops raided
a West Bank village near Jenin and
'arrested the father of the Tel Aviv sui-
cide bomber. The family of the bomb-
er, Samer Hammad, had emptied the
home of all furniture overnight for
fear the Israel Defense Forces would
demolish the building.
Islamic Jihad took responsibility for
the bombing on Monday and identi-
fied Hammad as the attacker.
Also Tuesday, the IDF fired rockets
