Rikshaw West
Famous local restaurant tastes live on at Eurasian Grill.
M
emory circles wafted about ...
I hadn't seen him in years ...
and here he was again, owning
the type of upscale restaurant that always
seemed to be in the back of his mind.
Likeable David Lum, with his promi-
nent smile and effervescent personality
that exudes enthusiasm whenever he talks
about food, has changed very little.
The former Rikshaw Inn that he and
barrister Joe Cohen owned in the Orchard
Mall closed its doors in 1994 after a 21-
year run.
David's present Eurasian Grill on
Haggerty, slightly north of Pontiac Trail
in the West Wind Lakes Villages (Kroger,
Hollywood Video, etc.), West Bloomfield, is
a neo-American restaurant with an Asian
base that together forms a most interest-
ing epicurean combination.
Of course, some of the former Rikshaw's
wonderful dishes are still being served by
David, who had today's popular lettuce
wrap 30 years ago with chopped chicken
and duck ... He calls it Chicken Soung at
Eurasian Grill ... And that excellent Dover
Sole ... plus the wonderful Caesar salad
he used to make tableside at Rikshaw,
also the first restaurant in Michigan to
have Shanghai noodles, which is on the
Eurasian Grill menu as Shanghai Pasta ...
Even the great Shrimp Saigon that David
used to prepare tableside at Rikshaw is
available today at Eurasian Grill, freshly
prepared in the kitchen.
His 31-year-old chef Michael Fung is a
