JTS To Honor Couples

Leaders of area Conservative con-
gregations will be honored at this
year's Jewish Theological Seminary
Gala, Monday, May 8, at Congregation
B'nai Moshe. Shin Award recipients are
Mitchell and Michele Bleznak, Michael
and Rosalind Grand, Howard and Lilly
Jacobson, Richard and Karen Minkin
and Ralph and Beverly Woronoff. The
Shin award is presented to outstand-
ing individuals who embody a com-
mitment to Jewish education and
synagogue life. Rabbi David and Alicia
Nelson- will receive the Rabbi Louis
Finkelstein Distinguished Service
Award in recognition of their years of
service to Congregation Beth Shalom
and the Detroit community.
Mitchell and Michele Bleznak of
Congregation Shaarey Zedek are
active congregational leaders. Mitchell
Bleznak serves on the board of trust-
ees, the investment and finance com-
mittee, the cemetery
board and chairs
the endowment
board. Michele
Bleznak has chaired
numerous fund-
raising events and
taken leadership
Bleznaks
roles in the par-
ents' organization of the Cranbrook
Educational Community. In addition,
she is a member of the Shaarey Zedek
Sisterhood and a supporter of many
local Jewish agencies.
Michael Grand served twice as
president of Congregation B'nai Moshe.
He is a founding
member of Grand
and Grand PLLC.
Rosalind Grand is
a past president of
the sisterhood and
served on numer-
ous synagogue
Grands
committees. She is
a life member of both National Council
of Jewish Women and Hadassah.
Howard and Lilly Jacobson are
members of Congregation Beth Ahm.
Howard Jacobson serves as a member
of Federation's
Community
Services Planning
Division and is a
past member of
Federation's Real
Estate and Property
Management
Jacobsons
Committee. He
is a board member of the Detroit

Chapter of the American Committee
for Weizmann Institute of Science
and the University of Michigan Hillel
Foundation. Lilly Jacobson is chair of
the Jewish Experiences for Families'
(JEFF) program of Federation and
is a board member of its Women's
Department.
Karen and Richard Minkin are
. members of
Congregation
Beth Shalom. He
practices primary
care internal care
in Farmington
Hills as well as at
Beaumont and
Woronoffs
Providence hospi-
tals. Karen Minkin is a devoted mother
and homemaker, taking great pride in
her family.
Ralph and Beverly Woronoff are
members of Adat Shalom Synagogue
He is a past trustee
of Adat Shalom,
having served as
synagogue treasurer
for four years. In
addition, he is a
past pregident of
the Adat Shalom
Woronoffs
Men's Club. Beverly
Woronoff is a longtime member of
Adat Shalom Sisterhood, a life mem-
ber of Hadassah and Jewish Women
International, having served as treasur-
er of JWI for the past 20 years. She is .
also a' member of Women's American
ORT and B'nai B'rith..
Rabbi Nelson serves as chaplain
with the Detroit Police Department, as
well with the Michigan State Police, the
Oakland County
police and the
Royal Oak and
Oak Park police -
departments. In
addition, he is a
prison chaplain
with
the Oakland
Nelsons
County Jail. Alicia
Nel s on taught at Hillel Day School,
leaving to open Tradition! Tradition!
She also served as chairperson of the
Beth Shalom Women's Seder, the Adult
Study Institute and Meals for New
Moms.
This year's dinner chairs are Norma
Dorman, Ellyce Fields, Marc Sussman
and Steven Weisberg. Funds raised will
go for student scholarships.
