Farmington Hills The Holocaust Memorial Center will host Yizkor Day to commemorate the 6 million martyrs and Israel's victims of terrorism on Sunday, April 23. Sponsored by the HMC and Sharit Haplaytah, the event is pre- sented in cooperation with the World Federation of Jewish Child Survivors of the Holocaust, CHAIM (Children of Holocaust.Survivors Association in Michigan), and B'nai B'ith Great Lakes Region. Saul Waldman, HMC development chair, Alan Zekelman, former HMC president, and Dr. Michael Treblin, HMC president, will welcome guests. A candlelighting ceremony will be followed by memorial prayers and renditions by Cantor Meir Finkelstein of Congregation Shaarey Zedek. Abraham Weberman, president of Shaarit Haplaytah, Will welcome the guests. Dr. Stephen Grant, HMC executive committee chairman, Erna Gorman, representing the Hidden Children, and Dr. Charles Slow, CHAIM president, will express greetings. Bloomfield Township Temple Beth El marks Yom HaShoah with an evening of learning and remembrance at 7 p.m. Monday, April 24. George Vine, a Holocaust survivor, will speak. The evening will include cantorial music as well as selec- tions by the University of Michigan saxophone quartet, Penultimate, with arrangements by sophomore Alan Posner. There will also be a candle- lighting ceremony and participation by Temple Beth El's high school students. Postcards with the names of Holocaust victims were mailed to temple members. The names will be read during the Mourner's Kaddish at the close of the service. Lansing The Michigan Jewish Conference, the Jewish Community Council of Metropolitan Detroit, the Holocaust Education Coalition and the Office of Governor Jennifer Granholm will host the Official State of Michigan Holocaust Commemoration Ceremony on Wednesday, April 26, at noon in the Capitol Rotunda, Lansing. "Legacies of Justice" is the theme of this year's Holocaust ceremony. State legislators, over 60 Holocaust survivors, Jewish War Veterans and the Boy Scout troop from Adat Shalom Synagogue in Farmington Hills will participate. Admission is free and the public is welcome. Windsor An interfaith commemoration of the Holocaust will be 7 p.m Tuesday, April 25, at Shaar Hashomayim Synagogue. The theme, "Honoring Simon Wiesenthal: One Person Can Make A Difference will feature Avi Benolo, Canadian director of Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Centre for Holocaust Studies.
