someone helping us with makeup; we
all got into groups and practiced our
modeling moves and poses," she said.
The evening's MCs were Carla
Schwartz, editor of Style, the maga-
zine and WDIV-TV anchor/reporter
Rachel Bianco. A crowd of about 200
people, including many parents and
friends, cheered on the teen models.
"The kids were so excited and so
animated:' said Fashion Unleashed
chair Jodi Tobin of West Bloomfield.
"We really wanted to find an event
that the kids could participate in that
would draw parents as well. We hope
to make it an annual event:' Tobin

said.
A number of local businesses and
individuals sponsored the event. Star
Trax Entertainment in Southfield
provided the music for dancing and
desserts after the show.

BBYO Building New Retreat
Michigan Region B'nai B'rith Youth
Organization. (BBYO) soon will have
a new home for chapter retreats and
regional training programs. The
David L. Bittker B'nai B'rith Youth
Organization Conference Center is
under construction adjacent to Camp
Tamarack in Ortonville.
The new facility is named in
memory of David L. Bittker, a long-
time member of the Michigan BBYO
Commission and its executive com-
mittee. The land for the center was
acquired through the joint efforts of
BBYO, the Fresh Air Society and the
Jewish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit.
The $1.25 million facility is being
funded by private donations through
a campaign led by BBYO Commission
Vice-Chair Barbara Horowitz in con-
junction with the Jewish Federation -
of Metropolitan Detroit. Rick Segal, a
former BBYO board chair, coordinated
the planning and construction of the
new facility, which will be completed
this summer.
The 5,700-square-foot Bittker BBYO
Conference Center will include a large
multipurpose room with an ark and
Torah, a kosher kitchen and 10 dormi-
tory-style bedrooms with separate
facilities for staff. Stephen Sussman
Architect & Associates of Birmingham
is the architect. Sussman is a BBYO
Commission member and a BBYO
alumnus.
The Bittker Center will be used for a
range of regional BBYO programs and
chapter retreats throughout the year.
The new facility will replace the
Charles and Florence Milan BBYO
Conference Centre in Belle River,
Ontario, north of Windsor, which
• has served BBYO for more than 35
years. The Milan Centre requires sub-
stantial renovation and repairs and
donated materials from the U.S. can-
not be transferred there. In addition,

'Fit Club' For Girls
B'nai B'rith Girls will create
the "BBG Fit Club" for its
second health promotion
program in its Mind/Body/
Attitude series on Sunday,
April 30. The "BBG Fit Club"
will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. at the
Sports Club, 6343 Farmington Road,
West Bloomfield.
The program will feature three
physical fitness activities: flexibility,
cardio and weights, each taught by
fitness instructors. All Jewish girls
who are eighth to 12th graders are
invited at no cost, although there
will be a charge for raffle tickets. For

Teen Connection Party
Teen Connection will visit "The
Inflatable Party Zone". in Shelby
Township on Sunday, April 30. All
Jewish sixth, seventh and eightth
graders are invited.
Round-trip bus transportation will
be available from the West Bloomfield
JCC at 1 p.m. and the Oak Park JCC
at 1:30 p.m. The cost is $16 for Teen -
Connection members and $20 for
first-time guests.
The fee includes transportation,
admission to "The Inflatable Party
Zone," a snack and supervision. Space

Reunion In Chicago
The clergy of Temple Israel will take
a road trip to Chicago to reunite with
young adult alumni from the temple
religious school.
