The Jewish Community Council
of Metropolitan Detroit
is pleased to invite you to join us as we honor
it is a Protestant dad who's trying
his best.
This year, our family will- be
back in Boston for Passover. My
father-in-law, "Uncle Sid," or
cousin Ken will probably run the
seders. Now that I've directed one
of my own, I'll feel more involved
than ever. Of course, this year my
role will not be as prominent, but
that's OK. It's their home, and they
do a better job. I just wonder if
they'll let me sneak a kiwi onto the
seder plate. ❑

Teens Help Out
Federation's Alliance for Jewish
Education will organize a day of
service and learning, targeting
senior service organizations and
young people throughout the com-
munity, on Sunday, April 23.
Sen. Gilda Z. Jacobs, D-
Huntington Woods, will offer a
proclamation recognizing the par-
ticipants in the program.
Sponsored by J-Serve2006 — a
day of service for Jewish youth
the Detroit program is one of
10 nationally awarded grants for
programming held in conjunc-
tion with Youth Service America's
National Youth Service Day.
"Programs that bring genera-
tions together hold tremendous
unrealized promise to improve the
quality of life for the elderly and
expand the life experiences of our
young people," said Judy Lewis,
program coordinator.
The Alliance for Jewish
Education will recruit teens to help
clean up and brighten the day in
various senior residences.
Registration begins at 10:30 a.m.
at Temple Emanu-El in Oak Park.
Following the service part of the
program, at 1 p.m. participants will
come together for group learning
and reflection on elder care issues,
led by Maggie Gaines, director of
spark: Heart/Action.
