BETTE G. ALLEN, 82, of Wixom,
died March 29, 2006. She was a cocktail
waitress at Baker's Keyboard Lounge
and the Orbit Room in Garden Village.
Mrs. Allen was also a teacher's aide in
Oak Park and a Navy WAVE.
She is survived by her son, Loren
Allen of Wixom; grandchildren, Maj.
William Strauss and Danielle J. Strauss;
son-in-law, Bill Strauss and his wife,
Connie Strauss. She was the beloved
wife of the late Jack Allen; loving moth-
er of the late Carolee Strauss.

RUTH ELSON BERKLEY, 89, of
Southfield, died March 30, 2006. She
was an administrative assistant for
Production Tool Supply. She was also
a member of the Jewish War Veterans,
a Jewish Information Service volun-
teer and a proud volunteer for the
Neighborhood Project.
Mrs. Berkley is survived by her son
and daughter-in-law, Irwin and Judy
Elson of Bloomfield Hills; daughter
and son-in-law, Suzanne and Harry
Katkowsky of Huntington Woods;

ALBERT MAYER BORKIN, 83, of
Hollywood, Fla., formerly of Huntington
Woods, Miami, Fla., and Brooklyn, N.Y.,
died March 31, 2006. He was a U.S. Navy
veteran of World War II and a graduate
of the University of Miami Law School.
He was also an accomplished busi-
ness owner and executive in the scrap
iron industry, a life-long boater and
an underwater
photographer,
who traveled the
oceans of the
world. Mr. Borkin
was a commander
in the U.S. Coast
Guard Auxiliary,
president of
Borkin
the Michigan
Institute of Sciap
Iron & Steel, and a state of Michigan
commissioner for natural resources and
recycling:
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn;
son and daughter-in-law Mark and
Holly Borkin of Bedford, N.Y.; son and
daughter-in-law Sheldon and Sandra
Borkin of Natick, Mass.; daughter and
son-in-law Bonnie and Eugene Filippi
of Westwood, N.J.; and grandchildren
Joshua, Danielle, Michelle, and Daniel.
A private funeral will be held in New
York City. Memorial contributions may
be made to the NYPD Shomrim Society,
the Jewish police officer's organization
co-founded by Albert's father, Morris

HAIA CARMI, 97, of Ann Arbor,
formerly of Israel, died April I, 2006.
