Kosher For Passover?

As Jewish households across the
country ready for Passover, the
Orthodox Union offers its annual
listing of domestic items kosher
for Passover.
The guide presents two.basic
lists: one for items that do not
require special Passover certifica-
tions (although they do need a
standard symbol) such as alumi-
num foil, candles, cleansers and
paper goods; another for items
that must have a "P" on the label,

products, beverages, candy, con-
diments, olive oil, dairy products,
detergents and polishes.
This year's edition also
includes guidelines concern-
ing the use and consumption of
"inedible" products and of medi-
cines on Passover.

Jewish needy
will be eating complete Passover
dinners at their seders this year.
"We are distributing special
holiday packages to 1,200 fami-
lies:' said Elaine Ryke, human
services director.at Yad Ezra,
Michigan's only kosher food
pantry. The agency will partner
in the project — as they have for
many years — with the Moies
Chetim Organization of Detroit,
whose Passover campaign has
raised funds for 80 years.
This year's distribution is
complete with seder meal items
including matzah, matzah ball
soup, oil, chicken, grape juice,
gefilte fish and macaroons.
"We also include perishable
items like apples, onions and 10
pounds of potatoes so clients can
make their own recipes:' Ryke
said. The packages also include
Haggadahs."And this year for
the first time clients will receive .
horseradish root, grown in the
Yad Ezra garden by volunteer
master gardeners who also pack :
aged and labeled it all."
Last week, volunteers sorted
and boxed the food items. This

week, they spent two days dis-
tributing it during client pick-up
times and will spend three days
next week delivering to those
who are homebound or lack
transportation.
"With a staff of five people, we
could never do this without vol-
unteers;' Ryke said.
Clients receive the holiday
packages in addition to the
monthly grocery items that are
part of Yad Ezra's annual dis-
tribution of more than 700,000
pounds of food.
"This food is very important
to our clients:' Ryke said. "They
count on it for Passover."

There are a lot of different
kinds of rage: road rage,
air rage and work rage.
Thankfully, I don't suffer
from angry outbursts on
the road, in the air or at the
office. I suffer from them in
my own apartment, but only
before 10 a.m.
