presented with Akiva's Community
Chesed Award.

Jewish Film Night
Congregation Shir Tikvah Sisterhood's
"Night of Jewish Films" will be at 7:30
p.m. Saturday, April 1, at the syna-
gogue, 3900 Northfield Parkway, Troy.
Speaking will be David Magidson,
professor of theater at Wayne State
University and director of the Jewish
Community Center of Metropolitan
Detroit's Lenore Marlyn Jewish Film
Festival. His topic will be "Do Jewish
Films Really Matter?"
Cost is $18. RSVP by March 24.

Rose has served on Akiva's board of
directors, its executive board and the
Parent Teachers Association and has
been involved with every committee
and event at the school. She has orga-
nized many local blood drives for the
Red Cross.
Bruce is medical director at the
American Red
Cross, is president
of the Michigan
Association of Blood
Banks and was the
recipient of the
Tiffany Award for
excellence in man-
agement and leader-
ship — the highest
honor bestowed

by the American
Red Cross on a
local level. He has
served as a volun-
teer physician.
The Newmans
are active in the
Young Israel of
Southfield and
supporters of
many charities in Detroit and Chicago.
The Banquet chair is Yehuda

Jews And Shakespeare

The Cohn-Haddow Center for Judaic
Studies will sponsor a lecture by Dr.
Phoebe Mainster of the Department
of English at Wayne State University in
Detroit.
She is an expert on early modern
English literature and Shakespeare.
The presentation, "The Image of
the Jew in Shakespeare:' will take
place 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 26,
at Congregation Beth Ahm, 5075 W.
Maple, West Bloomfield. The lecture is
free and open to the community.
