ZEHAVA GOLDMAN RICE, 93, of
Haifa, died March 13, 2006.
Mrs. Rice was one of the founders
of the Kibbutz Ein Hashofet during the
1930s. She became a leading figure and
executive in the Israeli building com-
pany Solel Boneh.
Mrs. Rice is survived by her brother,
Rabbi Leo Goldman of Oak Park, and
many nieces and nephews.
She was the loving wife of the late
Moshe Rice, a founder of the Kibbutz
Beit Alpha; and the sister of the late
Simcha Goldman.
Shivah and services observed locally
through Sunday morning at the home of
Rabbi Goldman.

RITA E. SUKENIC, 57, of West
Bloomfield and Scottsdale, Ariz., died
March 12, 2006 in Scottsdale.
Rita taught elementary school in
Detroit until her retirement in 1997.
She and her husband, Gerald, moved
to Scottsdale, returning to Michigan
in 1998 to care for her mother. Rita
returned to teaching as a substitute in
West Bloomfield.and Scottsdale and
continued as a substitute until the day of
her sudden illness.
She was a life member of Hadassah
and Roosevelt Chapter locally. She
served the chapter, holding numerous
vice president positions.
Rita, an avid reader, was also a mem-
ber of the Roosevelt Book Club.
She is survived by her beloved hus-
band, Gerald J. Sukenic; endeared and
loving stepson Howard D. Sukenic and
wife, Elizabeth; stepdaughter Resa
Sukenic; cherished granddaughters
Peyton Sukenic and Ashton Sukenic.
Rita, the loving daughter of the late
Joseph Cassel, is also
survived by her mother,
Ida Cassel, brothers and
sisters-in-laws Eugene
and Patricia Cassel of
Rockville, Md., Mark
and Jeanette Cassel of
Rochester Hills; loving
nieces and nephews,
Sukenic
Scott, Eden, Melanie and
Zachary Cassel; and so many loving
adoring friends and family.
As a lasting memorial the family
is establishing the Rita Ellen Sukenic
Hadassah Memorial Scholarship Fund
to provide financial opportunities for
deserving young women and their
families, locally, nationally and interna-
tionally. •
Granddaughters Peyton and Ashton
have committed to continuing the tradi-
tional Shabbat dinners that will include
special string beans, pea soup and more
than 100 ways to prepare chicken.
Services will be noon Thursday,
March 16, at Dorfman Chapel in
Farmington Hills with interment
at Clover Hill Park Cemetery. in
Birmingham. Attending will be her
beloved Buttons, adored and cherished
forever.

BERNARD "BARNEY" ROSEN, 88, of
Ann Arbor, died March 9, 2006.
A musician and social worker, he
received his B.A and M.A in music at
Wayne State University and a master's
in social work at the University of
Michigan. He played clarinet with the
Detroit Symphony, the Detroit Concert -
Band and various chamber music
groups.
In his second career, he was also a
dedicated and admired social worker
at Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor:
He was a participant and contributor to
many organizations including the ACLU,
the Democratic Party
and the ADL.
Mr. Rosen is sur-
vived by his wife of
35 years, Barbara
Rosen of Ann Arbor;
stepchildren, David
and Fran Linden of
Birmingham, Jonathan
Rosen
Linden of West
Bloomfield, Amy and Raphael Sarkozy of
Hungary; grandchildren, Molly, Avie and
Joe Linden, Lauren and Robbie Linden,
Teresa and Carl Rushton, Neshe Sarkozy,
Stephen and Jamie Sarkozy, Heidi
Sarkozy; great-grandchildren, Sandy and
Gary Rushton; brother and sister-in-law,
Fred and Gertrude Rosen of Tucson,
Ariz.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law,
Renah and Max Bardenstein and their
family; nephew and nieces, Sidney,
Frances and Vicky.
• Mr. Rosen was the beloved brother of
the late Joseph Rosen.
