SAMUEL KREIS, 72, of Commerce
Township, died March 9, 2006. A
mortgage banker for 50 years, he was
the owner of Kreis Financial Services.
After earning a basiness degree
from the University of Miami and
a master's in management from
the University of Michigan along
with advanced studies at the Detroit
College of Law, he followed up on an
early interest in banking.
He started with Citizens Mortgage,
then Security Bank (where he man-
aged the mortgage department),
United Savings, Bloomfield Mortgage
(now Comerica) and Nor\vest
Mortgage. In 1993, he became
manager of construction lending at
Sterling Bank & Trust in Southfield.
He retired from Countrywide Home
Loans where he was vice president of
the builder division.
He was chairper-
son for the Building
Industry Association's
Associates Council
and the BIA B-
Pac. He worked
on the Registered
in Apartment,.
Management program Kreis
at LaWrence Technological University,
served as chair of the BIA Housing
Fund's board of trustees and worked
with four universities to establish
chapters for students entering the
building trades.
He has been a director of the
Michigan Association of Home
Builders, past chair of the State
Associates Council and represented
Michigan on the National Association
of Home Builders Associates Council
and Membership Committee.
In 2002, Mr. Kreis was honored
with the BIAS Distinguished Service
Award in Real Estate. He had also
been named Associate of the Year
by both the BIA and the Michigan
Association of Home Builders.
Mr. Kreis was active in com-
munity groups, serving as a board
member of the Wayne-Metro
Community Service Agency and as
director of Lighthouse Community
Development, Pontiac. He was also
a director for the Oak Park Business
and Educational Alliance.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn
