Mitch: "Zach and I have always been
interested in politics. I believe it stems
from the passionate political conver-
sations our grandparents (Shirley and
Herbie Miller of Livonia) and parents
(Rick and Robin Goldsmith) engaged
in. Zach and I have formed our own
political opinions and our parents
have supported those opinions."

In addition to counter-
recruitment, what are
your other peace-related
concerns?

What spurred you to cre-

cessful MPW lists you
both as "activists extra-
ordinaire"?

Mitch: "Zach and I had not previously
been involved in the peace movement
because we had felt shunned for being
Jewish and supporting Israel. We had
wanted to come out against the war
and the Bush administration but felt
there were no groups that wanted to
hear what we had to say or cared any-
way. This was until we found
Michigan Peaceworks."

How did you both become
so politically active, hold-

Zach: "We are both staunch Zionists
and supporters of Israel, yet we see
people in the 'peace movement'
defame it. SAW believes that peace
between two sides is possible, and
education is possible without demo-
nizing one side. Peace and Zionism are
very compatible, and all peace-loving
people should stand in solidarity with
Israel for overcoming, with grace and
strength, all of her hardships and for
being a beacon of democracy, hope
and peace in such an unstable place in
the world." El
