hen Elliot Lewkow of West
Bloomfield packed-up his
last cappuccino cart at 6
a.m. Monday, the Pittsburgh Steelers
were still partying at the Marriott
Centerpoint in Pontiac. .
.
"They were still going strong," said
Lewkow, owner of Cappuccino Man.
"It's just one of those moments you
don't want to end."
Because of a longstanding business
relationship with Susan Jones, the
hotel's catering manager, Lewkow had
three carts and seven baristas at the
party for 3,000 that spilled from the
hotel's ballrooms into a huge tent in the
parking lot. Popular drinks leaving his
carts included extra shots of espresso
for the caffeine, fruit smoothies and the
special Cap Man frappuccino, which .
often got a shot of Kahlua at the bar.
Holding down one cart were
Lewkow's daughter, Sarah, and her best
friend, Sarah Tarnowski, both 17 and
students at West Bloomfield High .
School. They slept in on Monday.
"Things got louder and crazier as the
evening wore on," Lewkow said. "The
Commodores played for two hours.
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger came
down with his bathrobe on over his
clothes, smoking a cigar. Kid Rock and
Snoop Dog caused quite a splash.
"At one point, Roethlisberger gets up
on stage while the Commodores are
playing We Are the Champions, and
gets his teammates up there, too. They
are all screaming, 'We are the champi-

Elliot Lewkow of

ons' at the top of their lungs."
As Lewkow checked on his carts, he
was able to see the whole event. At one
point, he said, Art Rooney, owner of the
Steelers with his son, Dan, thanked the
players, their families, his administra-
tion, the city of Detroit. Later he saw
retiring star fullback Jerome Bettis of
Detroit give Rooney a big hug that
nearly lifted him from his seat.
"They were very classy': Lewkow
said.
"It was an amazing party:' he said. "I
had a lot of fun. I've done a lot of spe-
cial events, but this was the icing on the
cake — a nice feather in the Cap Man's
cap: ,

Re-Capping The Party

The individual "trophies" were made
from bittersweet chocolate and rasp-
berry ganache, with a chocolate "peb-
blegrain" finish, edible gold laces and
"XL" letters.
Robinson is a Pittsburgh native and
a University of Michigan grad who
earned his master's in hotel and
restaurant management at Michigan
State. He catered a charity event for
Pittsburgh quarterback Ben
Roethlisberger last year in
Roethlisberger's hometown, Findlay,
OhiO.
Other handmade desserts enjoyed
by the victorious Steelers on Sunday
night: chocolate mousse "domes" and
three varieties of triple-layer chocolate
melange.
