Awards. Over the course of four meet-
ings, held after Sunday school
between October and January, the
children read and reviewed all the
picture books.
The program was staffed by Rachel
Kamin, director of the libraries and
mediacenter, and Anita Hack, second-
grade teacher.
Kamin and five other synagogue
and day school librarians from
around the country served as judges
for the national Sydney Taylor awards.
Their choices: Sholom's TreasUre by
Erica Silverman, illustrated by
Mordicai Gerstein, won the 2006
Sydney Taylor Book Award for
Younger Readers.
The following books received honor
awards: The Journey That Saved
Curious George by Louise Borden,
illustrated by Allan Drummond; Ruth
and Naomi: A Bible Story by Jean
Marzollo; Shlemiel Crooks by Anna
Olswanger, illustrated by Paula
Goodman Koz; and Kibitzers and
Fools by Simms Taback.
Awards also were presented for
older readers. The full list can be seen
