Synagogues

Books For Kids

Lee Zendel (inside truck), Frank Johnston and Ruth Zendel, all of Rochester Hills, help load books donated
by Congregation Shir Tikvah Sisterhood to the Erma L. Henderson International Educational Community in
Detroit as part of its mission of Tikkun Clam (repairing the world).
Ruth Zendel learned the school had no library, leaving the children without books for reports or for
leisure reading; She brought the book drive idea to the sisterhood, which culled the books from members
and non-members. The books were delivered before Christmas so they could be enjoyed over the holidays.
The book drive goes through spring. New or gently used children's books for kids in grades K-6 can be
dropped off in the Shir Tikvah lobby, 3900 Northfield Pkwy., Troy, anytime the synagogue is open.

Shabat Shalom

God rested on the seventh day. So on
Shabbat, we also rest — without
worrying about the work piled up on
our desk or workbench.

Presented by Lubavitch Women's
Organization. For information on keep-
ing kosher or lighting Shabbat candles,
contact Miriam Amzalak, (248) 548-
6771, amzalak@sbcglobal.net .

Here's Your Chance

We want to feature a photograph each week to accompany this Synagogue List. Your congregations are busy doing special things
all the time. This is a great place to showcase them. We're looking for candid photographs featuring action — nothing posed.
Please submit photos to us for consideration. We will share the wealth and rotate among the congregations.
We prefer digital images sent by e-mail. High resolution. High quality. Timely. Not too many people. Full identification — name and
city as well as the ages of children. With your photos, send information about the event — what, who, when, where and why.
Include a contact and daytime phone number. Send it all to Sy Manello at smanello@thejewishnews.com or call (248) 351-5147.
