Take a trip down memory lane with
"The Other Promised Land: Vacationing,
Identity and the Jewish American
Dream," an exhibition that evokes the
American travel experience — and its
cultural importance — from the 1800s
to the present day. The traveling exhibi-
tion created by the Jewish Museum of
Maryland makes its debut at Chicago's
Spertus Museum on Feb. 5 and runs
through June 4.
The exhibit will be supplemented
with Midwestern vacation memorabilia
from Jewish Chicagoans, recalling the
heyday of Jewish resorts in the Midwest.
Added to the 500 historical objects, re-
created vacation environments and
media displays about such landmark
destinations as Atlantic City, the Catskills
and Miami Beach will be a special sec-
tion featuring photographs and sou-
venirs from classic Midwestern Jewish
getaways such as Schwartz's, South
Haven, Nippersink and Michigan City.
