A: Unlike a paid death notice, an obituary is considered a news item with no cost to the family and is published at the newspaper's discretion. Death notices have increased in size. Less space goes to free obituaries and greater emphasis is given to paid death notices, with photographs, religious symbols • such as Jewish stars, and even Web addresses, all adding to the overall size and cost of the notices. 10:00 am-7:00 pm, Sun, Feb 12, 9:00 am-1:00 pm, Mon, Feb 13, Jewish Community Center, D.
