It plans to hold community-wide phonathons at the Max M. Fisher Federation Building, 6735 Telegraph Road in Bloomfield Township. Times are Sunday, Jan. 29, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and on Wednesday, Feb. 1, from 6-9 p.m. Volunteers will telephone hun- dreds of households to raise funds to benefit the Jewish community's social welfare agencies, schools, eldercare services and cultural pro- grams. Federation's partner agen- cies are pressed to maintain essen- tial health, educational and social services. As the principle source of Jewish community funding, Federation's Annual Campaign supports 18 local agencies, including Jewish Family Service, JVS, Jewish Apartments & s Services, Jewish Community Center, Jewish day schools, Hillel and Tamarack Camps. Overseas, the Campaign aids Jews in Israel, the former Soviet Union, Argentina and other places. This year, every increase in pledge or new gift to Federation's 2006 Annual Campaign will be matched dollar-for-dollar through the A. Alfred Taubman Challenge Fund. Taubman established the fund this year to honor the memory of his close friend, the late Franklin philanthropist Max M. Fisher. To volunteer, call Lisa Cutler, (248) 203-1458. JCCouncil Meets The next Jewish Community Council of Metropolitan Detroit board meeting will be held at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, at the Max M. Fisher Federation Building in Bloomfield Township. Allan Gale, Council's associate director, said the agenda will include discussing some resolu- tions to be debated at the Jewish Council for Public Affairs Plenum in Washington, D.C., Feb. 25-28. The affirmative action initiative going on Michigan's ballot also will be discussed. The JCPA Plenum discussion will be open to the public, he said. The affirmative action item might not be open because it might lead to a vote among Council board mem- bers, he said.
