yen though it lost by a dozen
points, the Jewish Academy of
Metropolitan Detroit boys bas-
ketball team threw a scare into state-
ranked Detroit Urban Lutheran.
Urban Lutheran (7-1, 5-0), ranked No. 10
in Class D, beat visiting Jewish Academy
60-48 in a Catholic League game.
"They have one of the top players in
the state in Kevin Berry, and we held
him to nine,points," said Jewish
Academy coach Andy Herold. Jewish

Academy raced to a 12-4 lead early in
the game, but Herald said his team, had
a difficult time keeping the more ath-
letic Urban Lutheran squad off the
offensive boards and it fell behind.
The Jaguars (3-1, 2-1) climbed with-
in seven points with four minutes
remaining. They couldn't get any clos-
er, however, because big men Noah
Curhan and Matt Kurzmann both
fouled out.
Levi Stewart led Jewish Academy
with 20 points. Curhan had 10 points
and four blocked shots.
