"I was lonely at home; there would be
days I wouldn't get dressed until late in
the afternoon. Then one day I realized
that I needed a change. That's why I
moved to The Park at Trowbridge...
and I got my life back! Many of my
friends lived here and I didn't even
know it, plus I've made so many
new friendships too. You'll never be
lonely because there are so many
things to do-musical entertainment,
art classes, trips-there's something for
everyone. I've never had it so good."

What The Experts Buy
One reason a lot of people do their best to
ignore sunblock is the consistency. It can
be thick and yucky and gloppy.
When it comes to drugstore brands, Dr.
Levin likes Coppertone Gel, which "rubs
in nicely and smells good."
But there's also a whole world out there
of higher-end items that go on smooth as
silk and are fragrance free, or come in a
collection of lovely scents.
At Ruby's Balm in West Bloomfield,
candles that smell of magnolia and fig,
lotions scented with fresh gardenia, hand
creams with a feel and fragrance of warm
milk sit beside practical, yet elegant, sun-
blocks and sunscreens.
Sheryl Freedland, owner of Ruby's
Balm, has a sunblock for everyone. At the
top of her list is the B. Kamins sunscreen,
Bio-Maple.
B. Kamins is a dermatologist and phar-
macist who created a line of skin-care
products including the Bio-Maple..Not
only is it SPF 30 and broad spectrum, it
has no fragrance or oil and can be used
by those with sensitive and photosensitive
skin or rosacea.
Freedland also likes the Kiehl's line
because it includes a spray sunscreen of
between 15 and 40 SPF, and full-spectrum
protection. "It's very easy to use she says.
"A lot of parents like this because you can
spray it right on your children."
Those who like to get out on the slopes
might want to check out All Sport, a
handy little tin that has a sunblock with
SPF 50, in a thick, but pleasant, cream
that also protects against the wind.
Mustela, a line from France, comes in
creams and a stick, for use on both chil-
dren and adults. Offering protection with-
out chemicals, these have full-spectrum
coverage and are fragrance free.
Laura Mercier is best known for her
cosmetics, but she also makes a sun-
block/foundation/moisturizer in one. This
is not for those planning to spend the day
in the sun, Freedland cautions, but it does
provide some coverage and comes in
seven different shades to match virtually
any skin color.
And for those who want to stay out of
the sun altogether and avoid tanning
booths, but still have that J. Lo deeply
tanned look, Freedland carries self-tan-
ners, including the popular St. Tropez and
an odorless, colorless towelette.
Don't worry, she assures, these bear no
resemblance to those '60s versions that
left you with orange skin.
"Self tanners:' she says, "are so different
now." Li
