DR. CHARLES "CARL" WEST, 80,

of Ft. Myers, Fla., formerly of
Okemos, died Jan. 11. Born Carl
Weinfeld in Detroit to Sam and
Helen Weinfeld, he lived in the
mostly Hungarian neighborhood of
Delray. He attended Southwestern
High School, served in the U.S,
Army Air Corps during World War
II, went on to the University of
Michigan and received a bachelor's
degree. He graduated from Wayne
State University College of
Medicine in 1955, practiced radiol-
ogy with Ingham Radiology
Associates in Lansirig until his
1990 retirement, then moved to
Sanibel Island and then Ft. Myers.
Dr. West was a fisherman and
boater, swam 1/2 mile every day
and loved nature. He had an
appreciation for music of all kinds
and loved to sing. He also enjoyed
art, photography and mastered
computer skills at age 65. He
taught himself to play guitar, loved
old movies and was a reader, who
wrote his memoirs over the last 10
years.
Dr. West is survived by his wife
of 31 years, Nancy Milan West;
children, Lynn (Patrick) Boyle,
David (Estelle) West, Margo
(Daniel) Meniker, Jeffrey
(Christine) West, Mark (Lisa) West
and Sara Beth . West; grandchildren
Joshua Boyle, Lily Boyle, William
West, Zohar Meniker, Katherine
West, Elizabeth West and Cooper
West; sister, Violet (Harry) Lake;
stepmother, Anna Lovett.
Service and interment at Shalom
Memorial Park Beth Shearim
Chapel, 1700 W. Rand Road,
Arlington Heights Ill. Contributions
may be made to American Lung
Association or American Diabetes
Association. Arrangements by
Shalom Memorial Funeral Home in
Arlington Heights.

Q: My husband who had ALS has died.
We installed a stair lift, so he could get
up and down the stairs safely. I no longer
have use for it and I know it's very
expensive. Can you find a home where
someone needs it?

Southfield and West Bloomfield

mental health services to
members of the Jewish and
general community for 75

resettlement and integration of

JFS programs and services
address the changing needs of
individuals and the changing
nature of the family and the
community. Our staff deals with
a range of issues from changing
family dynamics to addiction
recovery to the provision of
emergency shelter and support
to indigent and homeless
people. We serve more than
12,000 clients annually. In
addition' to our professional
staff of master's level social
workers and case managers, JFS
utilizes the expertise of some
500 active volunteers whose
combined efforts total some
12,000 hours of service each
year.
