expected to be changed soon will say, "Angelo's Greek
Restaurant" instead of "Angelo's Bistro" at its West
Bloomfield location in Sugar Tree Plaza, Orchard Lake
Road north of Maple ... The new menu.now features
everything the former Big Daddy's Parthenon served in
its heyday ... Owner Angelo Georgizas was general man-
ager of Big Daddy's and also worked in the kitchen with
Tommy Peristeris, former co-owner of the popular West
Bloomfield Greek restaurant before he sold to his partner
18 months prior to its closing. •
RECENT 2006 ZAGAT survey among America's top
restaurant delicatessens listed Steve's Deli, owned by
Steve and Joannee Hurwitz, at Bloomfield Plaza,
Telegraph Road, Bloomfield Hills, "As close to a New York
deli as you can get, this wonderful delicatessen in a strip
mall in Bloomfield Hills turns out a phenomenal selec-
tion of consistently good, fast eats, including the best
chicken noodle soup in town and fabulous corned beef."
NAME OF THAT fine singer folks have been asking -
about who warbles with the Simone Vitale Band is Royce
Javan ... He's the same gent who does the national anthem
at Detroit Pistons home games.
THE ODOR OF boxing ring sweat never left him ...
even after becoming the doctor that his parents wanted
him to be.... Stuart Kirschenbaum, outgoing president of
the Michigan Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, may have
ended his Golden Gloves career years ago with a dislocat-
ed shoulder, but not his pugilist days ... going on to judg-
ing, managing and serving as Michigan'commigsioner of
boxing for 11 years (1981-1992) under three governors.
READER MINI CRITIQUE ... "Our recent dinner at
the Whitney Restaurant [in Detroit] was wonderful. The
ambiance remains a throw-back to the quiet, romantic
dining spots of yesteryear, with many choices' of upscale
food excellently prepared. I had a swordfish dish accom-
panied by a smoked salmon risotto that was out-of-this-
world. My companion had one of the best prepared duck •
dishes that he or I have yet tasted, a sliced duck breast
called 'Duck Steak:" ... Jill Margolick, Ms. Jill's Cookies.

work of art ... There's even waffles
available with catfish, dredged in
cornmeal and pan-fried.
One of the menu's most creative
items is the DBH&G private label
turkey sausage ... made With dried
cherries to offset the dryness often
found with ground turkey, and
Pepsi for sweetness ... The sausage

is delicious on its own or in an
omelet.
Danny Raskin
The bagels, lox and cream cheese
Senior Columnist
is a not-to-be-ignored-classic ... as
are the made-tworder omelets pre-
pared from a large variety of fillings.
Other mouth-watering fare is not to be seen on a
breakfast menu ... like pasta with Italian sausage, sand-
wiches, Roma tomatoes, fresh jalapenos and black beans
in a creamy Parmesan sauce, grilled chicken and mush-
room fettuccine Alfredo ... chicken salad and barbequed
tuna salad, lunch delicacies that include items like turkey
meatloaf and pineapple chicken curry ... Even petite filet,
petite strip steak and breaded veal cutlet.
Detroit's Breakfast House & Grill has a full bar ... and
constantly features wireless Internet at no charge to cus-
tomers ... Also a full-service coffee bar with its own cus-
tom blend made at the restaurant:
Seating is for 110 people within three dining areas ...
The shades of orange, green and white present dramatic
expressions amid a striking, modernistic decor of
warmth.
Hours are Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.;
Friday, 7 to 8; Saturday, 8.to 8; Sunday 8 to 4.
Many of its patrons are numbered among local busi-
ness people, judges, lawyers, show biz and sports folks,
local media sorts, etc.... as Detroit's Breakfast House, only
open since this past October, has already become a highly
received destination point.
LOOKS LIKE the column was on the beam about it
becoming a full-fledged Greek restaurant ... The sign

here are many upscale breakfast-only restaurants
around the country, but none that has taken the
concept into still another dimension.
What Frank Taylor and his partners in the Southern
Hospitality Restaurant Group, Robert Porche and Jerry
Nottage, have done with their new Detroit's Breakfast
House & Grill is put it into a realm all its very own.
Detroit's Breakfast House, as it is most commonly
known, located on Woodward across from the former J. L.
Hudson, is seeing a lot of regulars in its location at one of
the new residential developments, the Lofts of Merchants
Row.
Those who were around downtown Detroit in its retail
glory days will remember the area as housing some of -
Detroit's biggest shops ... Woolworth, SS Kresge and Frank
& Seder ... Immediately across from the Lofts of
Merchants Row, the former J.L. Hudson department store
is now the Campus Martius locale near Compuware head-
quarters.
.
Breakfast restaurants from coast to coast are just that
... Many open 24 hours, serving breakfast fare like eggs,
toast, waffles, etc., for people who want it at any time of
day ... But here's where any comparison ends.
The idea that Frank came up with and presented to his
partners was a breakfast house that served the usual
morning dishes but much, much more as well ... to be
enjoyed at breakfast, brunch, lunch and even a light din-
ner ... When it comes to food, Jerry Nottage shines bright-
ly ... Being one of the elite chefs in this area, Jerry came •
up with gourmet-style items that have taken off like wild-
flowers in a stiff breeze.
Creative things like puffy French toast made with cin-
namon swirl bread and stuffed with cream cheese and
apple filling, five varieties of Eggs Benedict, including
smoked salmon Benedict with fresh dill hollandaise, crab
cake Benedict with whole grain mustard hollandaise, etc.
... A variety of frittatas, too, including one with chorizo
sausage, peppers, cilantro and Monterey Jack cheese,'
topped with green chilies ... Like a Nottage signature,
each dish is colorful and seemingly constructed akin to a
