Eden, 12, and Jesse, 9, because
Congregation Beth Ahm didn't have its
own rabbi on the trip. "Rabbi Daniel
Nevins of Adat Shalom was very kind and
very welcoming," Nancy said. "The kids all
enjoyed it as much as the adults."
In the b'nai mitzvah and Chanukah
spirit, Milton Goodman of Orchard Lake
had his own surprise rededication at
11:30 p.m. at the Hotel Inbal chapel. His
son, Rob, and daughter-in-law, Jodi
Goodman of West Bloomfield, asked
Rabbi Joseph Krakoff of Shaarey Zedek to
conduct a special ceremony for family and

friends. Jewish tradition says life begins
again at 70 so because Milton is 83, it was
bar mitzvah time again for him as well. In
a nice twist, Goodman's grandchildren
presented him with a new tallit (prayer
shawl) and bag.
"It was very beautiful and meaningful,"
said Goodman, pleased that his wife, Mae,
and other family members were there
with him.
With the late-night service, it meant
that four of nine Goodman family mem-
bers on the Mission had b'nai mitzvah
ceremonies in Jerusalem.

Partnership. Region
Track Day was Dec. 29, which meant par-
ticipants had many options around the
country. Several buses made it up to the
Central Galilee, the Federation's
Partnership 2000 region. Affectionately
called P2K, the project is a partnership
between Michigan Federations (Detroit,
Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids and Flint) and
two Israeli cities in the Upper Galilee
(Nazareth Ilit and Migdal Ha'Emek) and
the Jezreel Valley Regional Council repre-
senting area Jewish, Druse and Arab com-
munities.

The current focus is Gesher to Kesher
(Bridge to Connection) programs, which
Makes up the largest part of the almost
$700,000 spent annually by Michigan fed-
erations, with Detroit investing the most.
These programs promote people-to-peo-
ple exchanges bringing Israelis to
Michigan and connecting Detroiters with
Israelis. For example, over the years, hun-
dreds of Israeli campers have spent the
summer at Tamarack Camps in
Ortonville, with local families "adopting"
them while they are here.
