the beloved wife of the late Joseph

JACK CARP, 73, of Farmington Hills,
died Dec. 26, 2005.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley
Carp; son and daughter-in-law, Dr.
Steven and Barbara Carp of Canton,
Ohio; daughters and sons-in-law,
Debra and Marshall Shencopp of Oak
Park, Linda and Jeff Bain of Fenton;
brother and sister-in-law, Maury and
Evelyn Carr of Toronto, Ontario,
Canada; grandchildren, Devin, Alexa,
Zachary, Aaron, Jesse, Matt, Alec,
Rachel Simone. He was the dear
brother of the late Joe Carp, the late
Esther Grossberg, the late Jean Byer.

SYDNEY L. GOODMAN, 88, of West
Bloomfield, died Dec. 26, 2005. He was
a life-long resident of Detroit, having
owned Ace
Automotive Supply
Company until his
retirement 20 years
ago. He graduated
Central High School
and Wayne State
University.
Goodman
Mr. Goodman
served in the United
States Army in World War II and was
captured by the German Army at the
Battle of the Bulge. He was a prisoner
in Stalag 9B in Bad Orb, part of Berga,
and as a Jewish American soldier was
forced into hard labor and tortured by
his captors. A portion of his story was
recorded by Neal Shine in the Detroit
Free Press on Dec. 8, 1985. Mr.
Goodman spoke at many area schools
about his war experience.
He and his wife traveled all over the
world and enjoyed many winters in
Coronado, Calif. with friends. After
retirement, he served as an arbitrator
for the Better Business Bureau and vol-
unteered for the Senior Corps of
Retired Executives (SCORE) and the
West Bloomfield Police Department. He
was sent to China with the People to
People Program to educate Chinese
entrepreneurs. He was also a member
of Congregation B'nai Moshe and sang
in their choir for many years.
• Mr. Goodman is survived by his
beloved wife, Grace Goodman; daugh-
ters and sons-in-law, Karen Goodman
and Joel Caplin of W. Hartford, Conn.,
Judith and Michael Hampton of
Tucson, Ariz., Barbara Goodman of
Richmond, Calif.; brother, Norman
Goodman of Vero Beach, Fla.; grand-
children, Dr. Evan (Eve) Rosen, Jennifer
(Sean) Donnelly, Alicia (Jay) Taylor and
Jared (Laura) Nelson; great-grandchil-
dren, Milo and Theodora, Quinn,
Sarah, Logan and Garrett; brother-in-
law and sister-in-law, Dr. Albert and
Ruth Krochmal.
Interment at Oakview Cemetery.
