Grateful Dead performed during their
tenure as the "fathers of improvisational
rocky' DSO presents the complete origi-
nal set list, song by song, and in order,
re-creating the historic music as, says
the Washington Post, the "hottest
Grateful Dead tribute act going."
The high number of Jews in the
Dead's fanatic fan base — the
Deadheads — was reflected in the
band's own Jewish connections.
Drummer Mickey Hart was raised
Jewish, and the band
held an abbreviated
annual Passover seder
each spring when they
played New York City,
enjoyed by about 20
members of the Dead
entourage.

All For Peace

On Monday, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m., the
Ark in Ann Arbor hosts the fourth

movie, which earned rave reviews in
Great Britain, is scheduled to open
in Detroit on Dec. 25.
Dame Judi Dench plays Mrs.
Henderson, an upper-class woman
and patron of the arts with a streak
of polite anti-Semitism, who teams
up with Bob Hoskins, who plays a
Jewish theater manager.
In the late 1930s, they put on a
musical revue that is a hit for a
time, but business goes downhill.
Mrs. Henderson brings audiences
back after persuading the chief gov-
ernment censor, a member of her
class, that nudity on stage can be
"art?'
Frears is an expert at depicting
British class, religious and color
divides. Such divisions were present

annual Ann Arbor Musicians for Peace
Benefit Concert. Local folk, rock and
roots bands and singer-songwriters
will perform their own and others'
anti-war and peace songs.
