Israel Advocates Two Jewish Academy of Metropoli- tan Detroit students, Ariella Morrison and Judy Margolin, were among 250 students brought to Washington by the American Israel Political Action Committee for the Advanced Advocacy Seminar-High School Summit. The seminar was intended to inspire students to get involved in the lobbying process and to become advocates for Israel. Morrison, a senior, and Margolin, a junior, attended classes on the Mideast conflict, advocacy, Hamas and Israeli politics, and Iran. "I was inspired to get more involved': Morrison said. Morrison and Margolin have drafted a petition urging Congress to pass the Iran Freedom and Support Act. The legislation would tighten economic pressure on Iran by codifying U.S. sanctions already imposed and urges, but does not require, increased contacts with Iranian pro-democracy groups. Once the petition has been circu- lated, Morrison and Margolin plan to meet with U.S. Rep. Joe Knollen- berg, R-Bloomfield Hills. "Iran is half way to having nuclear capabili- ties': said Margolin. "People have to realize this!' Ariella is the daughter of Deborah Roberts and David Morrison of Huntington Woods. Judy is the daughter of Beth and Steve Margolin of West Bloomfield.
