funeral. In his work, Mr. Hiller
insisted on honesty and dignity
and had the drive to make
things better, the rabbi added.
Jim said his father's legacy
will be not just his wealth,
but his generous heart. In the
business world, Mr. Hiller's
legacy was to create an entire
*generation of supermarket
managers who learned the
craft under him.
When Mr. Hiller retired in
1989, his son took over. Mr.
Hiller made frequent visits to
his stores, enjoying the con-
tact with employees and cus-
tomers. He visited one of the
stores just a week before his
death. "He beamed like a 30-
. year-old and lit up," Jim said.
In his later years, Mr. Hiller
became a devoted grandfa-
ther to his five grandchildren.
Showing a different side of
his personality, Mr. Hiller was
at one point an agent for
noted artist Peter Max and
sculptor Sir Jacob Epstein.
Sidney Hiller is survived by
his son and daughter-in-lmv,.
James and Margaret Hiller of
Franklin; daughter and son-in-
law, Linda and Eric Novak. of
West Bloomfield; sister, Helene
• Harris of West Bloomfield;
grandchildren, Justin Hiller,
Andrew Hiller, Spencer Hiller,
Frank Novak and Samantha
Scholl; brother-in-law Jerome
(Sharon) Horwitz.
He was the beloved hus-
band of the -late Harriet
Hiller, his wife of 50 years;
brother-in-law of the late
Jerome Harris. He was also
the brother of the late Leo
(the late Rita) Hiller and the
late Sol (the late Naomi)
Hiller.
Interment was at Clover
Hill Park Cemetery. Contribu-
