H
annah Weiner has
"loved animals since
day one," said her
mother, Amy Weiner of
Farmington Hills. Major sur-
gery for a facial dog-bite injury
three years ago didn't deter her.
.When she started to prepare for
her Nov. .18 bat mitzvah at
Temple Israel, it didn't take long
for Hannah to pick a mitzvah
project — volunteering at the
Ross Animal Hospital in
Bloomfield Hills, where she fed
and exercised the pets.
The dog bite at a friend's
house led to stitches, followed
by surgery last March. Of the
four original scars, the two
remaining will be permanent.
Hannah doesn't remember
"I like the field of medicine
but doh`t•know if I will go
into veterinary medicine or
pediatric medicine."

She was adopted from the
.
Animal Rescue League.
Hannah is an eighth-grader
at Warner Middle School in
Farmington Hills, where she
plays on the school's basketball
team.
Are there any animals in her
future career? Possibly.

but don't know if I will go into
veterinary medicine or pedi-

In an attempt to keep the notices that mark
youth on their.path to maturity meaningful
yet brief, we have decided to change the
items to include. We have eliminated the ref-
erence to the school "honor" rankings
because it differs from school to school. Since
mitzvah projects have increased, we ask that
only one be selectd to be representative of
tzedakah. Thank you for your adherence to
these changes.
