A Taste Of India

Like Stonehenge, French Twists may forever remain a mystery. They are
low fat and made without butter or eggs, yet they are amazingly yummy.
Available in several flavors, such as maple French
toast and almond, French Twists have just .5 grams
of saturated fat and 0 grams of transfat in each
crunchy cookie. Made by Barry's Bakery of
Las Vegas, the twists were created by Barry
Yellen, who got cooking after suffering a
heart attack when he was 42. His physi-
cians' advice: exercise and change your
eating habits.
"To stay committed to a healthier lifestyle, my
diet needed some excitement," Yellen writes. After a
great deal of experimentation, he came up with the French Twist, "layer
upon layer of puff pastry dough sprinkled with cinnamony sweet good-
ness."
Available at local grocery stores and Whole Foods Market in Troy and
West Bloomfield. French Twists also may be ordered online, at a cost of
$24 for six boxes, at www.barrysbakery.com .
