THE JEWISH ACADEMY... A. Sense Of Belonging. At the Jewish Academy, students recognize their shared heritage and learn-to take an active role in it. We give students more than a place to go to school. We help them Gerald Freed find their personal connection to the larger Jewish community and the world. High Honors Despite working long hours for 60 years, Gerald Freed has found time to participate in numerous Jewish charities and civic activi- ties, holding more than 40 com- munal chairmanships and presi- dencies since 1961. His community service was rec- ognized with Canada's highest civilian honor, the Order of Canada, at a ceremony Nov. 18, in Canada's capital, Ottawa. Freed is the first Jew from Windsor to be honored. He has been chairman or president of the following Windsor organizations: Development Commission; United War Chamber of Commerce; Jewish Community Council; United Jewish Appeal; LL Peretz Senior Citizens Residence; University of Windsor Medical School Fundraising Committee; Metropolitan Hospital Foundation; Lung Association; Community Foundation; Children's Aid Society New Building Fund; annual Negev Dinner; YMCA; Alzheimer's Society; Assumption College Board of Regents; and the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. Freed has financially supported many community causes "because I believe in giving back to the community." He and part- ner Alan Orman funded the Freed- Orman Center at Assumption College (now the University of Windsor). Your student BELONGS at the Jewish Academy.
