Something Blue

Whether you've rented a condo, cabin or hotel
room, you can still create an inspiring dining
atmosphere. Before leaving home, take stock. of
everything in the hue of blue that you have
throughout your house: Toy-store cocktail rings
can double as napkin rings (left). Have children
(or whimsical adults) get out their Sharpies to
decorate Chanukah imagery on white napkins
(below), whether cloth or paper. And blue glasses
can be easily substituted with blue plasticware.

Left: Apples (or pears or mini-gourds) can be trans-
formed into a seasonal version of the chanukiyah.
To help uneven-bottomed fruits rest flat on a sur-
face, slice a bit off the bottom of the fruits. Use a
metal skewer — or even a screwdriver — to "drill"
a small hole in the top of each to insert candles.
